Artist Statement
There is no fixed meaning or form in language, objects, phenomena, or anywhere else in the world. Subtle differences, and their influence on each other, continuous change. I focus on sensing this change and observing the continuously changing world. I seek to observe infinite variability in our world, beyond just the surface. I do not want to add a fixed idea to the changing world. My eyes defer judgment. Instead, they are continuously moving and observing the world. As a result, my work rejects traditional compositions and linear perspectives, and the world that I have internalized does not appear in my work. My paintings are comprised of fragments instead of conclusions. Eye movements create sculptures that resemble the world and continuously ‘wander and copy’, ‘collide and interfere’, and ‘reference and transform’. This comes close to creating a new vocabulary that speaks of the world, a sound that becomes the building blocks of new sentences and paragraphs. Because my work is comprised of fragments, there are no vanishing points. The fragments are as strong as a sound or voice. Yet, they are themselves incomplete and they embody infinite possibilities and movement. They are fluid. The world is perceived as a rigid order, but in fact, that is not the case. I hope for my work, as a field of moving fragments transcribed by interminable eyes, to provide a new methodology to approach the essence of painting in opposition to rigidity. I explore escaping from the restraints of a fixed state, and with unencumbered eyes, delve into the possibilities of the infinitely variable.
